Hey guys

I see that Apex has a jig to help the DIY guy file their M&P 9 Apex Semi Drop In barrel mating surfaces, but it it completely necessary? Did you use the jig, or were you just careful with your file?

I'm not seeing any used Apex jigs floating around, so I'm assuming most folks made do without one?

I'm also wondering that. Also where can you even purchase a barrel in Canada? I've looked all over and can't seem to find a retailer, I was hoping the get an OEM for my M&P9 2.0 5"

I ended up buying a lightly used Apex barrel from a guy here on CGN. He didn't need to remove any material to make it fit, the barrel it just slipped in without any problems.

The barrel did the same for me, no alteration required.

I measured from the front face of the locking block to the two "forks" that contact the rear of the slide opening and it came out the same length as my original barrel. The depth from the top of the barrel block to the underside of the thickened portion on the Apex barrel was about 10 thou deeper than my original though, so I'm hoping that I will see some improvement this weekend when I get it to the range.

My original barrel has two dimples on the underside of the block, so I suspect it's a 1 in 10 twist, and it's possible the overall length of the block was increased from the 1st gen originals (no dimple) in order to fix some of the accuracy issues S&W has. That's just a guess though.

Pretty scary though that the already oversize Apex barrel fits in my pistol (and the previous owners pistol) without any filing, I wonder how many M&P 9's have a super sloppy barrel fitment?

You might try contacting a larger retailer like Wolverine and see if they can get you some parts? I don't think anyone here in Canada stocks something like that, so you might have to wait a few months. They helped me out with some CZ P10 mag release springs, so maybe they can find you a barrel?
