....before my application is visible online? I've heard a lot of stories about people's applications ending up in limbo until a simple phone call clears it up.

3 weeks? 4?

It began showing up online today.

Application Received on: 2008/10/17

Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

Note: An accurately completed firearms licence application normally takes about 45 days to process. Incomplete and inaccurate information can add additional processing time.

So to the guy using the search feature like I did trying to find out how long it takes for an application to go from received to online.... About 6 business days (for me anyway)

Now it's a mandatory 28 day cooling off period from the day they get it and enter it into the system. During this time, they will conduct background checks and call you and your references.

With mine, licence was issued on day 29 and I had it in my hands on day 34.

Mine took 6 months,my buddy sent his on the same day had his in just over a month. There were no mistakes on mine I still don't know why it took so long.Even my renewal took 3 months.

Posted today (i know because i check every 12 hours):

Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

28 days EXACTLY issued on 29th. Could the horror stories about the ON cfo be at an end?

Mine was approved within the first week, then put in the don't mail till this date box. PAL average is 45 days from when you mail it in to it coming back in the mail.

Use this time to save up for your first purchace and ammo!
Some stores will take a deposit to hold your first one until your PAL arrives.

You can also use this time to join CSSA, NFA and read everything on legalese on there sites.
