Hey there guys,

I was just wondering something here... I applied for the RPAL last week and I'm sure that my letter got to Miramichi by this Monday (and we're Wednesday today).

I checked the online status verification service and entered my info, but it says that they have no such applicants. How long does it take them to confirm the reception (not the actual processing) online? I've been reading that the processing delays with the CFC should sometimes be calculated in "eons" (billions and billions of years, lol) rather than days, but how long does it take for them to just confirm an application reception? Thanks in advance.

P.S. No phone calls so far from the RCMP either. I know it's only been a week, but hey... I keep hoping to break a record in processing time (wishful thinking, haha). :p

It was just over a week from the time my renewal application was received in Miramichi until it was reported as having completed initial processing. I wouldn't worry about it. Check the website from time to time.

i was phoned yesterday, 58th day after my request was processed and they did call cause i called first to complain. my application had been left out somewhere in a dark alley...

now cfc website says my license has been issued and will be delivered in the briefest delays

Thanks to both of you... it's appreciated. These things should be processed in under a week though. It's not like they need to do any extensive research anyway - they run your name through the computer system and it tells them your backround, criminal suspicions, criminal accomplices or friends or any other problems with the law. It takes literally 3 minutes for the computer to gather all that info. I know because I've seen police computers in action from time to time.

As for the references, there's 2 people to call. Not a thousand, not a hundred. Just two... so it should technically take 10-15 minutes per applicant. A 58-day processing time is just ridiculous and abusive... someone's basically slacking off or is on a permanent coffee break at the office - which is the same thing.

Moreover, I think our 80$ fee should stimulate the government workers to give us better service and stop acting like they're doing us a favor, because they're not. The fee itself is total BS by the way, as licences should be free if you want people to even bother getting one. MANY people out there own unregistered guns with no licence and are not motivated to get them registered or licenced, as the probability of getting caught is as remote as getting hit by lightning (or less).

you'll get over it, every license i mean EVERY single license you will own is backed by unreasonable fees. as for the waiting time keep in mind there is supposed to be a mandatory 28-30 days waiting period, during which time my application sunk to the bottom of the pile.

I'll give you my timeframe:

-Sent application in via Express Post.
-They received it 2 days after I sent it
-About a week after they recieved it, it showed up on the website
-Mandatory 28 day cooling off period began the day they enter it into their system
-During those 28 days, they conducted background checks and called me and my references
-System showed licence issued 29 days after the date they recieved the app
-Licence was in my hand on day 34.
