Applying for PAL/RPAL, previously on andtidepressants

Just to chime in for anyone else that reads this, I just got my RPAL today and I was treated for mild depression (work related stress) and had no issues getting my license. I was on anti-depressants from Aug 2011 to May 2012, and I just got my license Jan 2013 (applied in December).

My friend and I both applied the same day, and his license was issued 1 day before me. The only difference is that on an application that had no "YES" checkboxes, it goes to the RCMP, and then to the CFO. With mine, it was sent to the local PD (Ottawa) as well. I did a 5 minute phone interview with local PD, I was asked to explain the circumstances, and they asked me if I was taken off the medication by my doctor, or by myself. Obviously, I was under he supervision of my doctor. He did a record check on me while I was on the phone and approved it on the spot. I thought it would be a lot more challenging.

A couple special notes to consider:
1) Be honest. If you lie and they find out, consider your chances of EVER getting a firearm gone. I wouldn't be surprised if they could charge you for falsifying a legal document
2)Keep on top of your application. I called nearing the 45 day mark and just inquired if there were any issues on my application. They said it was with the CFO. I called the CFO and they told me that it was sent to local PD, and then offered to give me the contact name. I said sure. I called him up and it was approved that same call.

Once again...be honest...don't screw your chances.

You should have no issues as long as your honest as possible. That's what I did and I got both my RPAL and Non-restriced. They ask you a few questions pertaining as to why you were on the medication and the best way about answering is give them the truth. Don't lie it only makes things worse, they do and can get access to all that information if they feel unsure.
