I completed my firearms training courses about a year ago for both restricted and non-restricted firearms (Oct 22, 2008). Received the stamped forms a few weeks later. I'm wondering if it's too late to complete and send in the PAL/RPAL application or do I have to retake the courses? I'm still missing one reference and my photo.

For the application form itself, I'm wondering if I can check off Prohibited (I do not have any grandfathered firearms but don't want to apply again if I do have one in the future).

Should be fine, CFC will have a copy of your exams on file (your instructor have to mail a copy to CFC), but you do need all reference and your photo (digital camera should be fine, print it out at any store, cut out the head and mail it in).

You are unable to apply for "prohibited" it has to be grandfathered, So don't waste your time.

I applied for PAL/RPAL about 7 months after completing both courses, I don't think the time matters.

For your second question, if you don't have any prohibited firearms now, chances are you never will.

Thanks so much for the responses!

So RPAL is for restricted firearms, and PAL is for non-restricted firearms? Does this mean I will have two separate licenses? Or RPAL includes PAL?

RPAL includes non-restricted, but I believe that the courses are sometimes separate.

Same license, if you're licensed for restricted firearms it also says "Restricted" on the back of your PAL.

Never, never, throw any paper work away! Keep it together, make copies and keep them in a fire proof containter.

Otherwise, you will encounter resistence.

Silly question  ; in terms of payments to the CFC, what happens if someone takes & passes their PAL, and then takes & passes their RPAL, prior to having to pay to renew their PAL?

Thanks.....:)

Renewing a POL or PAL is free until May 16, 2010. The
fee waiver also applies to individuals:

•who are upgrading from a POL to a PAL
•who are adding new privileges to their licence
•whose licence expired and are obtaining a new licence
•who are minors and who renew their minors possession licence

I applied years after i took and passed the restricted course, no problem. but if your Pa;l is over two years old you have to reaply for a new licence, appears in two years time your pic won;t the same if pal is over two years old lol
