Applying tape on go gauge

I know the technique but I have always believed that is not safe, but this gunsmith use tape on a go gauge to check the head space.

No problem. You must us a crush proof tape and know how thick it is. Masking tape or electrical tape are not good.

I think you can trust what Gordy has to say is safe. Scotch tape works fine.

I know if I can barely feel a stripped bolt close on a go gauge and I put one layer of masking tape on the go gauge, the bolt will not begin to close... just like it is a no go gauge... I have been using that method safely for an awfully long time now, probably 47 years. This isn't for the clumsy heavy handed gorillas... you need a sense of feel.
