My step son, who is 15 years old now, has completed his hunting license course and firearms safety course. He has his hunting license now, and can purchased his own licenses and deer tag. Back when I was a young hunter I was allowed to carry my own firearm at age 15, so long as I was in close contact with an older hunter (My father). I can't seem to find anything in the regulations that says whether he can carry his own firearm this year.
Could anyone steer me in the right direction? Hopefully we don't have to share a rifle again this year.

Thanks in advance.

He's good to go !.When he turned 15 he's able to carry and needs to be within reasonable distance from a fully lic'd hunter. He'll also need a minor's permit till he's 18.I had to go through this with my son a few yrs ago.The intructor should've told him-you this.Call cfc and get them to send the paperwork for a minors permit, fill it out and send away and he'll get what looks like a pal.

My buds in the same position & asked me.
I gave same answer but don't know about deer tag!
At 15 how can you buy a deer tag with no Outdoors card?

I did get him a deer tag. He can get and outdoors card at 15.
So far from what I have read, is at age 15 they can carry their own firearm without a minors permit, so long as a licensed hunter (PAL carrying) is close enough to him/her to take immediate action if needed. That to me says you would have to be standing right next to him/her. I will call today to find out more about the minors permit. The form needed is CAFC 671, and the only way to get it is call the CFC.

Hi. You're dealing with 2 different sets of laws. The FA and the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.
He needs the minor's permit until he's 18 to borrow a non-restricted firearm and buy ammo.
He needs to pay the Class A1 Outdoors Card tax(with written parental consent), be under the direct and immediate supervision(same blind) of a mentor who is 18 years of age or older, and who holds a valid Outdoors Card of the equivalent class and a valid hunting licence for the game species being hunted and the apprentice must share a single firearm with the mentor(as stupid as that is).
Read the 'Other Hunter Apprenticeship requirements'.
