what would be an appropriate humidity % for powder and primers storage?

thanks

Powder has a moisture content. Moisture is the final step in trying to control powder speed at the factory. That and blending. As powder dries (as in your powder measure) it speeds up. This is why a new can of powder cna seem slow.

If you keep powder cool, it will not tend to dry out as quickly. I store my ready-use powder in the house cold pantry, a little concrete room under the front patio.

I'd say 60-75% should be safe, ....it's not in a paper bag and the plastic or metal can just has to be prevented from rusting or whatever, and no condensation on the inside. Don't freeze it or leave it in high temperatures and it'll be good for 30 years.

I store my things in a room temperature of 17degrees celcius and less than 50% humidity
a guy said any basement was too humid, but mine just isnt really that humid

I store all my primers in .50cal ammo cans. I don't worry about the humidity because the cans are sealed, airtight with dessicant inside. Powder, get stored in the original jugs, opening only what I need. I keep most of my powder in 8lb jugs. Keep it cool with lower humidity and the tight seal on the powder can will keep all the excession humidity and moisture away.

I've been working on powder and primers that were made in the 1980's this way, and from my load testing, the powder performs exactly as advertised.

Primers and powder stored propoperly, it will store for many, many years and be as good as new. Give the powder an occasional sniff test if you are unsure.

I don't worry about my storage techniques. Cool and dry, everything in ammo cans or wooden boxes with lots of dessicant in each can.

i understand it has to be cool and dry
but I'm not really sure what humidity level would be good, my hygrometer shows 55%
(i was wrong when I said less than 50%!)

humidity during storage

I think cool and dry is best . no exposure to humidity. as for storing primers in an ammo can . your choice . loaded ammo yes . primers on their own in an ammo can? . can;t see them ever going off as they are;nt that unstable but if they did . nice bomb .

All I know is cool and dry so I shove a couple of these in my safe and with my powder storage. Not bad for 2 bucks a piece.
