Hi,

I've come across a 1942 K98 that's been sitting in a closet for who knows how long, and is slightly rusted, but in pretty great shape. It's all matching and has all the swastikas intact and no cracks in the stock.

Any ideas what its worth?

Thanks.

No pics, maybe this week, but doubt i'll get any. It just has very light surface rust, and its very light, only a discolouration really, no pitting.

this doesn't make a lot of sense, does it?

^^^^^^

"slight rust" may clean up nicely... "pretty great shape" does not mean excellent, mint etc.

pics would be nice...

Ok.......it has some slight surface discolouration that could be attributed to the beginning of rust....like when metal is left somewhere, say a closet, uncovered and "begins" to rust. The metal has no pitting, and stock looks great, its a darker colour than the standard k-98 look. The bore looked dark, and the rfling not very sharp. I'll try to get some pictures, but Ithink this is all I'm goingto be able to go on.
I basically want to know what to offer so neither one of us loses out.

The value range for K98k rifles is very wide. If the rifle is an absolutely untouched, all matching, never refurbished rifle, as brought back as a souvenir by a returning vet, it will have serious value. If it is one of the many reworked rifles surplused from who knows where, QM's estimate is accurate.

Thank you Queens, tiriaq and insurrecto. The rust does look like it will clean up easily. I will get pictures of proofs ect.... within the week. I know its hard to tell from the info I'm giving, I was just hoping for a ballpark figure to know what to go on when making an offer.

Stay tuned for pics!

Get lots of pics of all the bolt component numbers as well as the receiver markings, and bands. Until you have that, you really can't offer until you know what it is - all matching; mismatch; rework; humped.

i think as long as the rifle shoots straight everything else can be taken care of however there is a lot of work to be done to bring it back to its original beauty and that will reduce the price by somewhere around 200 dollars of its price. and for you to get the right price you must give a little more details about the markings on the rifle, and maybe a picture would help.
