April purchases

As of 2002 there weren't any Croats in the area... Now that's obviously after the Yugoslav Wars so any Croat population would have left (or worse), but my research suggested the area had always been solidly Serb. It's a moot point anyways, further research has pointed out its a postwar sling anyways and therefore not original to the rifle.

Solidly "Serb" BAH, its post treaty of triannon illusionary construct.....Serb/ Yugo......All of you back to Hungary....MAGYAAAAR!!!

The corrupt western nations pulled apart the great Austrian/Hungarian Empire to create a zone of engineered chaos and destabilization that still lacks order 80+ years later.....REMEMBER THE CRIME OF TRIANNON

Not actually milsurp, but a classic old gun (and with some very military features), this month I picked up a great old Remington Model 8 in .35 Remington. For those unfamiliar with these, it's a recoil-operated semi-auto designed by John Moses Browning and made from 1906-1936. It's a takedown, loads with a stripper clip and was very popular with law enforcement in the gangster era of the 30s. Frank Hamer famously used one with a 15 shot extended mag to gun down Bonnie & Clyde.

I took advantage of SFRC's "1 x Swiss K31 & 480 Rounds of GP11 Ammo = $599.99" deal on the weekend. The package is scheduled to arrive on the 7th so I don't have photos yet.

Continuing with my quest for good reference books... three out of print ammo books bought at the Dugald Gun Show:

Thanks Fugawi! I remember you posting pictures of yours before but I'd always be interested in seeing them again to compare... Interestingly, the sling on my rifle has VINA scratched into it. I did some research and there is apparently a small town called Vina in Serbia... but if it was in Serb it should use Cyrillic letters. Croatian doesn't, but why would a Croat scratch the name of a Serbian town? Of course there's the possibility (or probability) that the sling isn't original to the rifle and the name isn't anying significant...

Came across this and had a good laugh at all the theories lol. No it's not vina the town because like you said a Serb would not write in those letters. In Croatian, vina means wine. So what you have is a strap of a Croat who loved his wine.
