Aquila sniper rnds?

Hey all, saw a couple of adds on the xchange forum for Aquila subsonic 60 gr. loads for $40 and $50 respectively. Seems like might be a neat idea for grouse and such but the price seemed mighty high, so I looked them up on the www and they are advertised for $4.86 USD per box in the lower 48.

Any idea why the 10x higher price up here? Rare as hen's teeth? Can't get em? What?

I have heard that these rounds don't shoot very well out of most .22 rifles. I assume a standard .22 barrel twist doesn't stabalize the heavy 60 grainer very well. A guy at a local gun shop told me he was going to get a new barrel for his .22 just so he could shoot these rounds. Why are they so pricey? Supply and demand I guess. I don't think I have ever seen them on the shelf in any of the ammo stores I go to.

I assumed that the pricing was for a brick (500)...not a box (50).

If it IS for a box, someone is getting screwed.

I bought a bunch of that SSS at a gun show for 4.00/box, didn't shoot worth #### in any of the 16 or 17 guns I tried them in. Bullet is too long to be stabalized by normal LR rifling, and keyholes are the norm....I probably still have some kicking around here.

Check the approved ammo list. I don't think these are on the "approved" list, for import into Canada. That makes them uncommon, thus much in demand, until the guy that has them, finds out how poorly they shoot in a standard 22 barrel.

Not seeing the appeal, myself. Having to buy a new barrel to shoot ammo that is hard to get and expensive, seems a fools errand, to me. YMMV.

I checked the adds and the price is for a BOX.

As to stableizing the long bullet, reports indicate that most barrels are too slow, and keyholing is the norm, but apparently they shoot well in some older rifles, and also I read that many rifles will keyhole on paper, but good groups are often possible none the less.

As to why I'd like some, I would like to find a real quiet round that will reliably anchor grouse and such when I'm out for deer and the like. I've tried tons of different rnds over the years and found that CBs, other subsonics etc. won't drop them with body shots, standard bullet high velocity is a great wounder and hollow points tear up a lot of meat. And before somebody suggests head shots, I'm not that good a marksman.
