I am thinking of swapping out the Barrel on my 16" AR-10 to a 20" barrel. But am having a hard time finding an action block for the AR-10. Anyone know of one? I found action mounts that just attach to the upper via the pins but those are not great for barrel work.

Would a barrel vise work? Just clamp the barrel in a vise and use a barrel nut wrench as per normal?

Yup.

That would be actually the best way. There is less chance of twisting the upper that way. Depending on how tight it is torqued of course. The nut may just spin off no problem

Good to know. I can probably borrow a set of barrel blocks from a gunsmith freind of my dads. Just need the barrel and wrench then.

On a related note, the AR-15 barrel nut takes about 30 inch pounds for torque correct? What does an AR-10 take?

Last page: 45 to 85 ftlbs

The amount you torque will depend on the nut/gas tube lines up to the upper.
