AR-15 7.62 × 39 Optics

Pardon my ignorance, as I am old school iron sights guy...

I recently picked up a 7.62 x 39 upper and would like a recommendation for reasonably priced aka not crap but not +$700 either optics. I am interested in 3 gun, but would also like to stretch its legs on the 200m line as well.

Of course finding a recommendation for 5.56 is easy, but with the different ballistics, I don't know how those recommendations hold up.

Yours,
David

The Burris Ar332 has some nice bullet drop dots on it, I use it and love it, apparently it's made for 556 /7.62x39 so that's what I got it.

Not possible as the BC and velocities are drastically different. The duality applies in the sense that regardless of calibre the hold overs will correspond to some specific distancebut necessarily the marked values.

I have an xcr-l in both 7.62x39 and .223 caliber. I not to long ago put a Vortex pst (gen I) 2.5-10x44 on it after running a hi-lux cmr 1-4x28 for years. Both sit in warne qd msr hight rings.

I guess it depends on the type of shooting you're going to be doing in regards to magnification. You probably won't be shooting out past 300m much with a x39.

First off, i'm a bit of a vortex fan boy, as in my opinion, they are a solid deal for what you get. My caviot being... the more expensive Philippine made ones are the ones to get. The Japanese razor line I lust after, but can't afford. I do have Chinese made crossfires, strikefires etc and the only difference I can see is glass clarity to edges and resolution.

The Hi-lux 1-4 is great for plinking and having a large field of view. The glass Is very clear edge to edge, is almost a true 1 power, and is pretty good value ($400) for a Chinese scope (the primary arms scopes are probably better, but weren't available to me at the time). Although not very popular in Canada, Hi-lux are better known in the states.

At the end of the day, whatever you choose you're going to have to practice with to get the holdovers or "clicks" right. I've learned over the years all balistic reticles will work for different calibers, just which dot for what range... good excuse for range time.

I replaced my HiLux with a Vortex. I much preferred the HiLux.
Cleanest glass for the money and the AK reticle is accurate and user friendly. I used it for 600yd gongs as well as 30yd hunting. Great in low light.

It was on a x39 XCR.
