Hi All,

I'm a new gun owner and I have an Colt AR15 on the way. What is the correct procedure to break in this rifle? Any tips are appreciated.

Don't over heat it with strings of rapid fire. Clean it after the first use to remove any accumulated bullet metal fouling. Thereafter, clean as required. Enjoy!

Clean it. I suggest starting with a good CLP like Fireclean if you can.
Shoot some decent quality ammo out of it.
Use generous lube on all friction points, as this will help to start smoothing it all out.

Thats it, and have fun doing it.

It doesn't mold like Frog Lube for starters

LOL. Froglube molds? Ah, the perils of keeping up with fashion. But seriously, other than not molding, what does Fireclean bring to the table that other products don't?

Glad I just stick to wheel bearing grease.

It is food grade so naturally it would start to mold under the right conditions.
I have just seen lots of good reviews on Fire Clean and have given it a shot.
I like it.
I found grease gummed up too much in the cold.

I switch to synthetic motor oil in the winter.

Food grade? Edible weapon lube? I guess I haven't been paying attention to the new products much.

Thanks guys. Does anyone know where I can pick up some fireclean in the Vancouver Area? I found one retailer that carries it but they only do online sales and I don't want to pay $15 shipping on $19 purchase.

The new frog lube formula won't mold. Also if you read up on it you'll see a lot of people were storing there guns in locked foam cases which is a terrible idea to begin with what ever lube you use. I use it all the time. You just have to apply a thin layer like any gun oil or grease. I never understood why people soak there guns on oil and slather on grease, it just carbonizes gets gritty and sticky.

As for what the OP was asking, just clean it shoot it and enjoy it.
Breaking in a gun is a myth. You'll find lots around here.

So "Fireclean" is the new, trendy product? What does it do that all the previous trendy products don't?

LOl thats what i thought! Trends in this hobby are hilarious! Sorry i will just stick to my tried and cheap method . WD40 to clean it and Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil to lube it ... If its good enough for a $10,000 500hp all aluminum engine its good enough for my $1500 rifle . When using motor oil in AR15s use light weight oil in winter and heavier weight in summer just like old cars .

I used the same thing. However, a drop of fireclean does the job and it prevents carbon from sticking.

Holy hell, it's a gun not a Pomeranian show dog.....

Break in procedure?
Take ammo (the cheapest you can find so you can buy more of it).
Put ammo in magazine (LAR15 10 rounders are the best way to go!)
Put the magazine on the rifle (use the magwell)
Then #### the rifle (with your hand though NOT with your #####)
Then shoot a whole bunch of the cheap ammo you bought so you could buy more of it.
When you need to clean it, buy the cheapest gun oil you can find (save your money for more of that cheap ammo) and put it on the gun, wait a while then wipe it off.

Repeat whenever your wife lets you go to the range ;)
