AR-15 broken gas ring

Hey guys, I have a Stag Arms AR with aprox. 600 rounds through her. I stripped the gun after a trip to the range yesterday and found a broken gas ring. I'm new to the AR platform so I'm wondering if a broken ring at 600 rounds is a cause for concern? The inside of the carrier looks good. Should I simply change the rings and carry on or is there other issues I should be checking into?

A picture of the broken ring is probably not necessary, however here is a blurry pic anyway.

By all means replace it and carry on, but keep on eye on it. I have never broken a gas ring, and they should last a lot longer than 600 rounds. Maybe it was just a fluke. If you break a second one, then you may well have a more serious problem.
 
Yeah I bought a thousand year supply. Still havent used any of them. I believe the last time it was a set for a dollar or less. The are very cheap.
 
Just a fluke. It's not exactly a common source of failure. I bet the rifle cycled just fine with two rings . I'd even bet most casual shooters probabily wouldn't notice they had a broken/missing gas ring until they did a detailed strip and clean (maybe months later).
 
Yes, the rifle cycled fine with the two good rings. I was concerned because the rifle only has 600 rounds through it and I hear of guys going multiple thousands of rounds with the same rings.

Had to order the Field Repair Kit from Arms East for $47.50 which includes the 3 gas rings I need. Since I am the second owner of the firearm, they can't do it under warranty. Oh well!

I hope that went ok. I wasn't in the office when you called, but I asked if you had when I got in. Steve told me you purchased the field repair kit and all was ok.

We could have sent just the rings (I think the 3 pack is about $1?). I hope you didn't HAVE to order the Field Repair Kit. Not a bad kit for any AR15 owner to have regardless, but...

I was told over the phone that I could not buy the gas rings separately so I bought the kit. No big deal, it will be good to have a few spare parts. I asked for free shipping and Steve said no problem. I'm happy with that.

I am not sure about the above dealer as to what parts he sells individually. You can get gas rings at several places. Wolverine sells them. Brownells sells them 3 for about $2. For the small parts kits, springs, detents, rings and other small stuff, you should but a few packs and keep it on hand. Some of it you wont need but its handy to have if you do. You can get a good collection of most small parts for $50 or less. Some things you can make on a temp basis like detent pins from a coat hanger...:p

It would be nice if some of the sponsors advertised or listed small parts to make it easier to find stuff.
