From time to time I see people looking for Full auto Bolt carrier groups for AR15's. Whats the reasoning. I assume its not for a full auto rifle. Is it just for cool factor or is there a practical reason to prefer a FA BCG? Is there a difference in value?

It is heavier than the old Colt C cut carriers and the semi carriers and people may be looking for a heavier carrier for various reasons.

The LCF plays into it as well.

Sorry, Look Cool Factor.

I have all 3 types. Either because that was what came with the gun or was available when I bought the BCG. I can't give you a real answer on the "worth". I guess it depends on what you want or what runs better in your gun as well as the quality of the mfr.

More knowledgeable folks will chime in on this soon I'm sure.

Full auto and cool factor have nothing to do with it.

The "FA" BCG is what the system was originally designed to work with. The other types (SA, non-FA, half circle, whatever you want to call it ) were made as a result of manufacturers bowing to political/legal/etc. pressure.

The BATFE have already ruled that FA BCGs are legal to possess, use, etc. in the US, but despite this, some manufacturers still persist with this idiocy. Although some individual states (Commiefornia comes to mind) do have separate legislation I believe.

FA BCGs are no more special/rare/expensive than any others. I believe that we should not be referring to them as FA BCGs, as this plays into the anti's hands when they are looking to ban/restrict stuff (can you imagine Wendy, "it has fully automatic parts in it!"). We should call them Full Weight or Full Circle BCGs, or something similar.

Regards.

I use them in my short barreled ar15's just for function

I also use m16 hammer in my 9mm colt RO634 smg as reg hammers OR 9mm hammers jam up real good

M16 BCGs provides proper dwell time and smoothes out carrier bounce. Extremely essential in shorties. This is and should be the defacto standard for anyone running carbines and shorter variants.

Semi auto carriers were developed as a legacy crutch due to legal concerns when Colt first introduced their rifles for civilians. They are lighter which can cause faster wear and tear due to a reduced lock time, bolt bounce and more violent extraction.
