Hi everyone, just took my AR to the range for the first time.

I noticed every 3rd shot, the gun would stovepipe jam (it appeared to be) and then when i cleared everything out, the casing was really beaten up.

Im really not sure what to do, i will take pics of whatever you guys want to see, just help me help me help me!!!

Stovepipe is the brass sticking out of the ejection port.
Can you give us more detail?
Type of rifle, ammo.
Is the rifle new. If not..how many rounds through it..approx.

Sorry its winchester 45 grain hollowpint, and its an unfired round, the casing gets really chewed up and it ist still live

upper is Colt, used, not sure about round count

You say it is an unfired round that's "beat up " --& still in the action -- likely beat up by the bolt going forward & striking the round that it is trying to feed , You didn't say if the fired case still remains in the chamber or is partly extracted if so , you have an extractor problem . corrected by installing a new extractor , or a "D" fender spacer a small D shaped ring under the original extractor (one or both ). -- ---- If the fired case is out , likely you have a "feed" problem where the round is misaligned with the chamber , feed lips on mags are usually the culprit.
Either way there is something getting in the way of the fresh round keeping it from feeding .

Here's my $0.02...If the loaded round is jammed on top of the fired case, you've likely got a failure to extract. This could be caused by bad ammo, a weak buffer spring or a weak extractor spring. This problems rears its ugly head most often with short barreled AR15's because the cycle time is shorter and more violent (shorter path for the gas, higher pressure). A heavier bolt carrier (M16 type) may retard the cyle somewhat and fix this problem. A quick fix is putting small o-ring (#60) around the extractor spring to increase extractor pressure on the case rim.

If the live round is jammed into action by itself (no other case in the chamber), you've a failure to feed. This can be caused by the ammo or the magazine.

Check to make sure your ejector moves up and down in the bolt face freely (it'll take a bit of force). I had a similar problem, and it was caused by the ejector hole being out of tolerance (too big). When the bolt would rotate against the head of the casing, the ejector pin would tilt slightly, shave off a bit of brass, and the brass would go right down the ejector hole! After 20-30 rounds, the ejector pin would start to stick, and it was jam city...

I blasted through a 'value' pack last summer with no issues, but as stated others have had trouble. In the end, accuracy was poor in my gun and though it was just for plinking I won't be buying the stuff again.

I put 80 rds of that stuff through a CQ-311 last friday and didnt have a single problem. It is the only .223 that I can find around Ottawa does anyoen knwo were I can get some other .223?

LeBaron has decent, boxer primed Winchester/USA(55gr FMJ: $5.27/20) and Remington/UMC (55gr FMJ: $5.27/20) 223 in stock usually. And.. they're in Ottawa to boot.http://www.lebaron.ca/pdf_fall_pgr/hunting/rem_centerfire.pdf
