All AR's are restricted. So yes Stag are legal for use on any range approved for restricted rifles, assuming you are a club member of one and are the holder of an ATT for target purposes.

As to your brand question, just figure out how much you want to spend and go from there. Stag are good, Bushmaster, DPMS, Remington, Rock River, Spider, CMMG, LMT, Spikes, Armalite etc. etc.. Me? I like Colt.

I have some handgun be it would be my first rifle.
I do IPSC too and i have heard of a kind of IPSC with 3 different gun. ( handgun, shotgun and rifle ) I find this concept really interesting.
I'm not really interest in "precision" shooting at long range, i'm looking for fun ! :)

Are you planning to use it for 3 gun competition?

A really reliable AR would be good. I've seen a bunch of ARs go down either due to quality or poor maintenance.

Here's a link to the infamous M4 chart

I've heard that some select Stag's are MP tested. But they are a bit rare.

Thx alot! And yes, I'm planning to use the 3 gun for that kind of match!

Depending where the match is you need a really accurate and reliable gun.

If you compete at the larger ranges or go down to the States they have some stages out to 400-500 yards. However, I haven't seen to many of these in Canada.

For those longer stages having a sub-MOA AR like a Noveske or custom build really helps. However I wouldn't recommend it to someone new to the AR system.

Apparently many serious 3 gun competitors prefer having the full length gas system compared to carbine and mid-length gas systems as the shorter systems are over pressured. This is why some prefer the "dissapator" style ARs with full length gas systems and a 17" to 20" barrels.

While not close to milspec, I have had good experiences with Rock River Arms (RRA) ARs because they usually include their own National Match 2 Stage Trigger and some feature Wilson barrels that are quite accurate however not always chrome lined. As long as I clean regularly and keep adding lube to the bolt carrier group it keeps working.

But any of the Colt, LMT, Knights, Stag, CMMG, RRA, Spikes, S & W, and Daniel Defense guns are quite good.

Just to mention Charles Daly went out of business.

Thanks very much for that spread sheet!!

Glad to help. But as there is much debate and fuss over this I must include the following.

Disclaimer:
I did not make the sheet. And it for the individual to decide what they want. Note they did not compare every single model each company produces to the milspec requirements. This is an independent review by an individual and does not endorse any one product.

Normal DCRA Service Rifle shoots go back to 500m. So you have national shoots and every province will also have provincial and regional shoots.

La question la plus importante est, est ce que tu habite au Quebec ?

Which Stag model do you recommend ?

Somebody have any comment, warning, advice to choose the part to build it or a good site to order ?

And yes, it is really long to get an AR-15 in Quebec.. (Something like 4 to 6 month)...
