The purchase of an AR-15 is high on my list and I would like your opinions on which to buy. Armalite, Bushmaster, RRA. Stag etc. I am leaning towards a Stag if for no other reason than the distributor Armseast, is in the same city as me and I hope that this would speed up its arrival at the gun shop.

The Stag has a chrome barrel so I am thinking that a nylon brush would be necessary for cleaning.

You will be fine with any of those(the) major brands. What is your budget?

What type of configuration are you looking at? IE. barrel length? do you want a flat top upper? Carbine or Mid Length? How far will I be shooting? Magnified optics vs Red Dot?

Stag makes a great rifle and buying them from Walter at AE makes it very easy. I built my self a 14.5 with a Eagle Arms lower and a Bushmaster upper. No issues and works fine. I saved about $100 which I spent on mag and ammo.

I liked my Stag very much it had the best finish out of the 3 AR's I've owned (RRA, EA and Stag); ArmsEast is also great to deal with :)

Am I right in thinking I will need a separate ATT for this rifle. I already have one for my XD45ACP. (I am not at home so I can't check the paperwork to answer this question.)

I was planning on buying the standard AR-15. You know...the evil one.:)

No. If you look at your ATT you'll see that it applies to all restricted, not a specific firearm.

Maybe not. Ontario allows transport of all restricteds registered to the holder or something like that. In contrast, NS lists each specific firearm registration certificate number and when you buy a new gun, they mail you a new ATT. Not very cost effective or a wise use of manpower but this is NS we're talking about.

Best thing to do is read your ATT to see what NL allows. If there's any doubt, call your CPFO and ask.

They will issue a temp. ATT to get it home, then your long term ATT kicks in once its at your place. NO probs.
Long term ATTs are for shooting at clubs etc.. buying a gun from a store and bringing it home doesnt fall under shooting range stuff.. so a new "short term" ATT is issued for trtansportation to your house. Different transport reason, different ATT.
Your long term is good, the store will hook you up with a "temp" to get it home.
BTW:
Stag. I love mine.
flat top upper.. love it.
Its fun to watch the spectators flinch when you shoot it too.. lmao. If you shoot it from a bench to sight it in.. it can knock over water bottles with the concussion coming out of the flash supressor.... makes peoples hair blow in the wind.
It really gets the old guys in a huff though.... They find the wind to be disturbing.

Oh! I'm in Ontario, I just assumed it was the same everywhere. We all know what they say about assumptions.

Go for Stag, especially if he's local to you. Great quality and I think that they actually have the best prices, only drawback is that they don't have any midlengths. If you go Stag check your bolt key, a lot of them have had bad staking jobs. Even if you don't go Stag, check it anyway, I'm amazed that companies still do a bad job in this area.
