I am quite intrigued with buying an AR-15 and have just started the searching process. The main question I have at the moment is, are my conclusions right in that .233/5.56 ammo is typically 50 cents a round or more? Or are we in a drought at the moment and are usually able to buy it cheaper?

Thanks in advance for your helpful responses.

50 cents per is average for retail prices. A better deal can usually be had if buying off the EE or buying in bulk.
Make some friends locally and buy 10k rounds and places will usually give you a better deal.

I find $0.50/ rd a real deal these days for non-Norc brass cased .223. I will buy at $499.99/1000 + tax in a pinch, but I feel like I robbed a bank if I can get $0.50/rd tax and shipping in!

Your best bet is to spend time on site sponsor's websites. The current prices are not likely to go down unless the dollar changes.

Wholesale sports in Edmonton regular price for UMC bulk is $499 for 1000. Last year they had a sale 20% off. I have been waiting for the next sale but haven't seen one. Canadian tire had the milsurp stuff in wooden crates cheaper than that but it was made in 1995 in china. I would rather run newer stuff from a company I know of so I prefer not to buy that ammo. I haven't seen it an cheaper in retail stores.

I can usually get it for about 50 cents/round plus tax if I shop a little. I'll be saving my brass going forward though.
