AR-15 vs. LAR-15 magazines

Yup.....if the label markings are gone it becomes illegal so purchase the magazines that are lazer printed or permanently metal punched as the ink stencilled hardware will wear off.

Here is an example of a few of mine that are two LAR pistol magazines and two pinned rifle magazines. How can you tell the difference if the markings are removed and not pinned? Guys they become prohibited.

However I have purchased a couple of the cheap printed IWI LAR Magazines, but will be very careful with them.

I assume you have some sort of documentation that says that if a marking wears off the item becomes something that it is not?

I understand that having proper markings is desirable, but the item is still what it is.

Stencilling " LAR PISTOL MAGAZINE" onto a magazine that was produced, marketed, imported and sold as a rifle magazine does not magically transform it into a pistol magazine either.

Ok. So, the LAR 10 round pistol mags can be used legally in my AR? Why/ how?.. Whats the loop hole? I can only have 5 rounds in my AR normally. What changes here? Please explain because im confused. ..Thanks

No loophole, just the magazine rules themselves and their use is based on what they were designed for. In the case of LAR mags they were designed for a pistol, thus the 10 rounds. No different than my CZ 9mm which will work with .40 cal CZ mags, thus holding 13 rounds of 9mm.

Just can't get my head around using two good magazines for the purpose of imitating one 30 rounder. You drop this during a reload and it fills with dirt or worse. Better to add a proper magazine extension to mimic a 30 rounder for training classes.
You drop any magazine and it can get dirt/ect inside of it so that is really a moot point all together.

Personally I cannot warrant spending money on DEAD WEIGHT which is exactly what the extensions are, also the coupled magazines allow you to send more rounds down range before having to stop and reload all of them.

The coupled magazines instantly double the ammunition capacity of your loadout and that is worth quite a bit to a lot of people, especially as already mentioned you don't need to reach for another magazine out of a pouch.

So you drop, bend over to pick it up and then rotate it into the rifle? Or you grab, pull then rotate it to reload? Both ways sound very inefficient to me.

This is how I change my mags.......I'm by no means high speed but it works pretty decent and I've seen many other shooters using the same technique with less travel at a faster pace.........I'm sloppy and a mag change right now is just 3 seconds before hitting my bolt release. (I need to train more!)

Ya you did pretty good, but not to be critical have you tried that while transitioning left or right, back and forth or running? Hey what ever works for you as it is to many moves in the heat of the moment. For me it's just drop the mag and reach for another.

I've used this method in all of those positions and I have not had problems with it, also I'm pretty much equally as fast just dropping the mag and pulling another off of my vest.

I'm not training for being on duty or in combat so "heat of the moment" doesn't apply in my world, but if I were intending to train for that sort of situation then yes I'd most likely use the magazine extensions so there is zero chance of attempting to seat a magazine that is positioned backwards from flipping it under stress.
