I am currently in a very active reserve unit, going to the regular force next year after my BA is finished... On military ranges in 2005 I probably fired 3000 rounds of 5.56, 9mm and 7.62 through various courses, ranges, qualifications, competitions, and excercises. This is definitely more than the norm however :D

Since you're a young guy, I would recommend joining the Army reserves in any combat arms (Artillery, Armour, Infantry, Combat Engineers). Not only is it a well-paying job but you will receive some pretty cool weapons training, including on the C7 (fully transferable skills to the Ar15)

Already done that. Am hopefully going for training this summer for the Infantry Reserve (Canadian Scottish Regiment).
