AR 16" barrel question

If you're gonna go that route, wouldn't it just be easier/cheaper to simply cut down a 20" barrel to 16", and leave the gas system alone?

Or would the port be too close to the end of the barrel, causing a drop in pressure before the action was fully cycled? ie: short stroking?

I'm guessing there must be SOME downside/negative effect, or else what would be the point of a midlength system if you wanted rifle length handguards?

I want the front site as far out as I can. I had a Bushy Dissipator and was sorry to have traded it off, but I had to try all the other lengths.
I am going to try to import the barrel assembly alone and build an upper as money permits.

Actually it was the Bushmaster dissipator that first piqued my interest, though someone said they were a bit funky.

Simply put, the mid that esquif posted makes me drool. Gonna have to go that route, place my order tomorrow.
