AR-180B. Are they truly garbage or do they have their merits?

Hey everyone, among a long list of other firearms, I'm considering picking up an AR-180B. I have read a lot of different reviews, and the verdict is either extremely positive or extremely negative. They are not an AR, they are not a Tavor, therefore I expect they will not perform as such (those are big shoes to fill), but are they really as unreliable as I'm reading from some sources? People say buy an ACR or XCR as a substitute, but quad rails and AFG's just don't do it for me. Any feedback would be appreciated.

crap
receiver breaks after 100 rounds like wtf even keltec is better, thats really bad

xcr comes in keymod now
acr can be standard hand guard

so therefore no quadrails of afgs

Hmmm... Might pass on one of these if that's the case. Too bad, they're nice looking rifles. Held an original 180 and it seemed pretty solid. Don't know why they would change a decent design.

I've put over 600 rounds downrange with mine without a single issue. I bought mine used, so no idea of the exact round count, but probably over 2000. For simple plinking/cheap thrills, it does the job.

My understanding, and I could be completely off base, when they break it's user induced. Letting the upper swing down. ???
Any truth to that?

No way they're as bad as KelCrap ;).

no they also break when firing.
theres a guy here who kept sending it back he got 4 receivers exchanged, they each broke after 100 rounds, till the last one they sent him he ean up to 1000 roubds on it before selling it.

so it really depends what rifle you get

are you willing to roll the dice?

Nope, but I came close a few years back. I passed on a $900 180b that was intact.

You have no idea what you're talking about Mike, my 180 has well over 1000 rounds through it and has never had a single malfunction of any kind and the lower receiver hasn't cracked. If some guy had one break 4 times I'm going to guess he was mistreating the rifle and should probably take up a different hobby.
Just because you read it on the internet doesn't mean it's true and it doesn't mean you're getting the whole story. If that really happened there must be more to it than it simply broke after 100 rounds.

Sure there are better rifles out there if you're willing to drop another $1500-$2000 on top of the cost of a used 180 but they aren't a bad rifle and it's plenty accurate enough to have a fun afternoon playing on crown or private land shooting gongs, coyotes or gophers.

I'll go through 600 rounds in an afternoon alone. Perhaps a 180 isn't the right fit for my style of shooting. Anyone have any solid first hand experience of a 180B surviving a couple thousand rounds?

Still want one... especially if it can be made to look like this.

That's the Predator P12X rail.

Buy once and cry once man. The Tavor, ACR, and Modern Varminter should be what you decide between. I have the first 2, and am waiting for the 3rd, but I am already certain that the ACR is the better rifle of the 3 both feature wise and will definitely be on par with the MV for accuracy.

It's a solid rifle , it'll do 600 round trip to the range no problem, It's miles better then any Keltec , but it 's only a $800 rifle , maybe $1000 at the most , and of course it's not a AR , any more then a Travor or a AK are a AR .
The original AR180 was designed to compete against the AR15 , but since the Americans went with the AR15 , that's what everybody else wanted as well .

$1000 rifle max. That's exactly what I'm thinking. I don't understand the pricing some people have had on CGN with 180's. Although, I have seen a few reasonably priced ones as well (far and few between). They aren't known to be a reliable rifle (not saying they are unreliable), so what gives? Also Rob Arms M96's, yes they are very rare therefore they are expensive, but is the price justified?
