AR 9mm - What mags?

I was having a discussion with a fella about how many rounds one could put in a AR 9mm. I was thinking 10 because I thought AR 9mm's took handgun mags. He thought 5 because they took Uzi mags. So who is right?

Colt style 9mm AR's are limited to 5 rds. The only one that might be 10 is the Oly Glock lowers as they use pistol mags but I can't confirm this for certain. I think Questar was importing the Oly Glock lowers so they should know for sure.

In other words, you both might be right.

Both are correct the Colt 9mm SMG takes modified UZI mags there are many manufactures the only one I believe that takes pistol mags is the olympic arms as it uses glock mags

what about factory Colt mags? they should be 10 rounds right? (yeah I know they aren't)

I wish I could afford more mags. I've only got one 20/5, what the hell am I going to with 5 rounds when the zombies attack?

The Glock Lower OlyArms are allowed to have 10 round pistol magazines because they are designed to use an unmodified pistol magazine.

I tried very hard to get CFC to allow the RRA 9mm CAR A4 (it was new to Canada) to be classified for 10 round arguing that the rifle was designed to use Uzi mags and that there is a 10 round (sold by RRA) Uzi mag for the rifle. They ruled that the Uzi is not a pistol and therefore it's magazine were not considered pistol magazines... so it is classified for 5 rounds.

There are other rifles classified for use with 10 round unmodified pistol magazines... the Kel-Tec Sub2000 is available in Glock, S&W, Beretta and SIG magazine variations and is allowed to use 10 round mags.

Should give it another try with one of the RRA AR pistols.... Which brings up another point... if the CX4 storm can use 10 round B92 mags, what about a .223 chambered AR15 pistol? It's a slippery slope the CFC has chosen to tread upon!! ;)

It doesn't work the way many seem to think... the issue is totally unrelated to the rifle, it is based on the magazines. IF the magazine was manufactured to be used in a pistol then it is allowed to stay a 10 round magazine (regardless of whether you use it in a handgun or a rifle). If the "pistol" magazine needs to be modified to be used in the rifle then it is no longer considered a pistol magazine and must then comply with the 5 round rifle limitation.

CX4 is a good example... the original rifle was built to use the pistol magazine... 10 rounds no problem. Then they got the bright idea to produce a CX Storm magazine (exact same magazine but stamped as a CX Storm magazine... that means it is now a manufactured magazine for a rifle... the stamped mags must be 5 round... the unstamped (pistol magazines) can still be 10 rounds.

It's all based on the wording of the law and the magazine's original manufacture/purpose.

RRA uses the UZI mags so they are ruled as 5 round.

only the US sees an AR without a stock and a very short barrel as a pistol. the CFC says an AR is always an AR. wether it wieghs 500g and can be shot with one hand or a 5kg 26inch barreled version. AR is a rifle.
