So I have no knowledge about AR's, what barrel length are people using for 3 gun? What distances are being shot for 3 gun? 16" is mid length carbine? 18" rifle? What ranges would those be suitable for?
Thanks

If you thinking about 3-Gun then I'd consider going with an 18" AR Barrel maybe a Daniel Defence M4V7 Pro. The 18" will give you a better velocity and targeting, but to be honest I know people that do just fine with a 16".

Most guys would be suited with a 16" barrel and a mid length gas system. The arguement of velocity loss etc is like splitting hairs. As a beginner or even novice shooter, you likely wouldn't notice any difference in results on paper.

As for shooting distance, it's a relative myth that short barrels cannot shoot longer range.

16" can be carbine or middy, 18" can be carbine, middy or rifle.

Either way, when you've settled on a barrel length, research which buffer weight you'll need to run it smoothly.
