Looking for some advice from the experts.

I purchased an 11.5" Green Mountain AR barrel from Wolverine. When I measure the barrel length using a cleaning rod from the end of the barrel to the bolt face it measures 12.25"

Is this normal or am I missing something?

barrel length i believe is measured with a rod down the barrel with it installed and the bolt forward.

I though barrel measurements started at the rifling, to the research lab! (Google) lol

Edit: it's bolt face to end of barrel. Could be flash hider like Steve said

Maybe you have EXCESSIVE headspace? ;)

It could be that GM only counts to where the FH threads start? In Canada it's to the muzzle (where the rifling stops), but maybe they measure different...

OR - they sold you a 12.25" barrel. :)

Those green Mountain barrels are indeed 12.25. I have an 11.5 DD I compared it to. The Green Mountain barrel is .75 inches longer than the DD.

From what I understand there is no real standard, and diff manufactures measure in diff ways.
Meanwhile, some manufactures will just advertise is as a certain length even tho it is not but is close to a certain "class".

I wouldn't complain unless it shorter then I wanted, probably feel "short changed".
In the mean time, the performance difference will be negligible, and the extra little bit might actually give you an edge in back pressure related reliability. That's the way I look at it anyway.
