I need to remove my barrel nut, I have a cheapo barrel nut tool with 2 posts which go into 2 slots on the barrel nut. I stripped alot of the slots using this. I am going to take it to a gun smith and hopefully they some how take it off, with so many slots damaged.

Anyone recommend a good gunsmith in the GTA who knows ARs?

Also, anyone recommend a quality barrel nut tool, with a slot for a torque wrench so I dont mess up my delta ring next time?

Also, can anyone recommend a grease I can use to lube the threads of the ring, so the delta ring will comeoff smooth next time?

I can't recommend a gunsmith in the GTA but the proper grease is Aeroshell 33MS
Not to be confused with the regular Aeroshell 33.
It contains 5% moly and is a lithium complex grease.

The important thing is not to use any grease which contains graphite or an anti-seize compound.
This is because it can cause corrosion by galvanic action between the steel barrel nut and the anodized aluminum receiver.

You may be able to get away with using Canadian Tire moly grease but you asked what the proper grease is.

I have the a Brownells armorers wrench which works well.

Molycote G-N paste. Its mil spec and the metal assembly paste colt/armourers use. get it at Acklands Granger

Just make sure when you torque it back up you take into account the paste, reduce the torque spec by 1/3, so you do not over torque.

so to get to 50 ft lbs, the wrench should be set around 38 ft lbs.

If you did 50 ft lbs with a grease, you would be actually tightening it to 66.5. Not an issue there, but at 75 you are now torquing to 99 ft lbs.....

For a barrel nut, this is the best one I have found to date. Bought it and it works great. I got the the head only one and use a breaker bar and torque wrench to tighten barrel nuts.

It got it from Brownells. It's the precision reflex ar15/m16 barrel nut. Just go to brownells and look up the manufacturer "precision reflex'.

As for lube, the mil-spec grease is Aeroshell 33MS. You can get it here: http://www.aircraftspruce.ca/search/search.php?s=33ms

Got mine there. It was a good transaction and a tube is a lifetime of putting ar's together. Find a buddy and share a tube.

Later......
