AR bolt question

I just bought an AR upper with no bolt or carrier. Are AR bolts such that I can just buy one, drop it in and go?

Im using a 9mm AR15 bolt in a Colt Sp1 reciever that was ment for .223 w/9mm barrel, and If I put the .223 barrel on that upper I could put my AR15 .223 bolt in with no problems. Even the 762x39 will fit AR15 recievers, uses the same carrier but a different bolt. AR15 is good for that because you can change cals easy..
