I'm finishing up my first (from scratch) AR15 build. Having now almost completed a build, I see why this is so addictive.

I have assembled the upper and most of the lower.
I am a bit confused by the ass end of the rifle though.
I have a 20” barrel and corresponding rifle length gas tube.

Now when it comes to the stock and buffer / buffer tube and spring, am I limited in what I can use? I have read that carbine length will work on a rifle length system but have also read the exact opposite…that it wont work. Can anyone clarify?
Can I use any old stock?
What buffer/buffer tube/buffer spring combo should I use?
Thanks in advance…..and my apologies for the new-ar-guy-questions.

You can utilize an A2 style buffer or a carbine setup on a rifle length gas system. Timing the action can be accomplished by the correct choices in buffer weights and spring configuration. Having said that a rifle length barrel with a carbine stock may throw the balance of the rifle itself out of whack so an A2 extension and stock can address this. Plus the look of the rifle may be more appealing. But it’s all about what you like.

In short there are so many hardware choice you can get any stock to work on a rifle length barrel.
