Hello. I am buying another AR to add to the family. This one is a 16" barrel carbine. Can someone recommend a good optic for it? I am not looking to break the bank on it. Something like a red dot or minimal magnification. Something that would be used for CQB or in IDPA for example. I was looking at some on Questar, but I don't think I want to spend $1000.00 right now. I'm not a cheapskate, between $300.00 to $600.00 for a start.

I am not too familiar with these types of sites (normally just use rifle scopes or zero magnification red dots) so any info or links to sites would be appreciated.

Thanks guys. I am looking for something that is appropriate for the gun and all your suggestions seem to fit the bill. I mainly want it for the IDPA 3 gun matches and such, and for general range use.

There are no sanctioned IDPA 3-gun shoots. IPSC yes, IDPA no.

What is your max range in a match? If it's less than 200m then any of the aimpoints will do just fine. There are plenty of decent ones on the EE that will more than fit the budget.
If it's more of a CQB type of match then looking at an Eotech probably wouldn't be a waste, they are a little bit faster and do just fine on a range gun.

Cheers,
Grant

Try looking at the Millett DMS 1-4x24 Illuminated circle dot reticle at $299 (in our store). The illumination is one of the brightest we have seen in recent optics. We have sold several of these scopes with the majority of them going on AR 15's or military type firearms. Millett was purchased by Bushnell and so they are doing the warranty. Phil.

What's the eye relief on these? Thinking of mounting it forward on a chopped M14.

Regards,

Where did you buy your LaRue mount from?

Since I am in the US , I got it straight from LaRue. I do not know if is possible for people in Canada.
We have around 6 LaRue mounts at our house. Nice mounts and the company always has shipped various goodies with every order: things like hats , bottle openers , paint mixers , bumper stickers , or gun lube.
Hope that helps.
