AR Complete - but a little wobble (shut up and shoot it?)...

Hey all,

So I bought a new receiver (Eagle Arms) on Black Friday... my thinking was I'd use the Eagle lower in lieu of my Stag Arms lower (I'd save the better one for the future).

Well, upon completion as I picked the rifle up off the table the second thing that popped into my mind (after the "Ooooh Baby!") was WTF!??!!?! there is play between the receiver and upper (the Stag lower did not have this problem).

Now my question is this... I love my LMT upper, will this play hurt anything or is it only cosmetic?

I can live with it if cosmetic as I've owned an AR180B in the past (feels similar) but if it will accelerate wear I'll be choked (What could I do in this case other than replace the reciever - anything).

I hope this is a situation where I can just shut up and shoot it as nothing negative will occur (in regards to accelerated wear).

Now here she is... complete as of tonight at 11:30PM (You like the OD paint job I did? I do) and my bathroom scale shows her coming in at 5 pounds with loaded magazine :dancingbanana:

The eagle lower is in no way inferior to Stag, that slop will in no way affect the function of your carbine...you really need to get out and shoot more and stop worrying about "tool collector" problems like a little wobble.;) you want rattly/wobbly gun, come see my Bushmaster...:cool:
 
There is a product called the "Accu-wedge" that you drop into the rear of the lower which removes wobble. Little inexpensive plastic piece.
 
Thanks Sparrow, what I figured. Ok, I will say this of the Eagle lower, the lines matched up better with the LMT :D

Hoser-eh, that sucks badly... hope it all works out and tiriaq I will check out the Accu-wedge down the road ~Cheers.

Now, hmmmmmmm... do I skip work today for range time.... hmmmmmmmmmm
 
If you go to Armalite's webpage, look at Tech Note #55. It explains reciever tightness and how it relates, or more specifically how it does not relate, to accuracy.

I'm sure that lower is fine.

I've had C7s with lots of wiggle room. Never a problem.

I think you answered your own question with the last part of the header. ;)

Can you be more specific? Did they refuse to register it to you?
 
It seems that it is a grey area. Apparently the Quebec CFO was not processing transfers for that type of rifle at this time, according to the information Wolverine gave me. I will contact the CFO myself to get info. Until then, I cancelled my order.:(
 
That is total crap... interesting that a province can just "decide" these things.
I'm looking forward to more info on this.
 
I have a lower receiver that is so tight...
That did not sound the way I meant it!

I do have the opposite problem however, dlask lower and bushy upper, way to tight, need to pound the rear pin in, any suggestions?

Trade? (kidding)

If it were me, I'd take the least expensive part (in this case the rear pin) and shave a bit of where it makes contact with the upper hole so that there is more of a slope rather than an abrupt edge. If you screw it up it's just a pin you need to replace ;)

Good call, better than drilling which was what I was thinking, but was to scared to do as yet.
