I would pay money to go to a location and have someone teach me the how-to's of Ar building. Someone with the right tools (for sale) who can get me over the fear of slip-and-wreck.
Has anyone in the Ottawa area ever thought about it?

That sounds too advanced for me. Here's what I need,

-Must be at a local club so we can take our own rifles

-Instructor must have required tools, block, wrenches, punches

-2-4 hour segments, 1st segment detailed field stripping and changing barrels,
uppers, lowers and stocks

-Other segments dealing with common problems and fixing them

-Instructor does not have to ba an armorer, students would sign appropriate
waivers

Anything else?

"AR15.com member FALARAK has a IDIOTS GUIDE TO AR's"

 I prefer to call my self a savant. I have poured over the AR.com site. I would rather see stuff done hands on and not have to run to this site and cry for help at every turn.

Just a thought.

Does every AR nut have stuff like the action block and the proper wrenches? Is there anyone in the Ottawa area who could lend me the proper tools?

last winter we ran an ar15 course at the EESA it was alot of fun, and very good for them that don,t know much about ar15s
I,m more then willing to help out if someone wants to put on another one

Yes the AR course was a good time.

If you like I am certain if you were willing to make the trip down to this neck of the woods Silentrunner would be willing to give you a hand.

Heck it could turn into AR15 seminar Mk II

I'm looking for the same thing as prproulx, count me in. Just something basic and hands on over the course of a day like Hungry's M14 clinic. I don't want an full on armourers course, more something without any b.s. from someone who knows what they're talking about with "real world" experience with the system. Here's a basic curriculum off the top of my head.

- basic overview and functioning
- common reliability problems and fixes
- field and bench maintainance, spare parts kit
- complete tear down and re-assembly "every nut and bolt" (barrel change ect.)
- accessories overview (what works, what doesn't, what intergrates best)
- optics & mounts
- zero's for different ranges w/ different barrels and ammo overview
- basic shooting techniques (stance, slings ect.)

I realize most of this stuff is out there in one form or another but for myself at least I don't need a formal course and at the same time reading how to do stuff doesn't come close to hands on (try slinging a 1907 sling for the first time or learning how to shoot prone with it by reading!).

I'm saving up for an AR and a course like this would be a great help. Would be great to get a bunch of guys together at a club for the day. I wouldn't even mind paying for something like this and if enough guys were interested it would make it worthwhile for the "teacher", besides I got some good advice years ago from an old fellow "you usually have to pay for good advice!"

Anyway count me in!

AR 15 seminar

I would love to do it again! I learned a lot the first time and am sure that I could do a much better job the next time. The club is fairly busy now but I will check what dates are open. Send some feedback as to what topics you would like covered (ie TOTAL strip down, proper zeroing, construction from a forging, etc) and I can get prepared.

If there is enough interest I will ask Stormbringer to set up a separate post for this.

I think Gunslinger covered what I'm looking for. A one-day clinic would be more cost-efficient for those who have to travel.
