AR, DPMS ambi safety: easy install, no gunsmithing required? How so?

Don't I feel dumb now. So unless you have the ambi safety that covers both sides, would you normally have a empty hole? Or I assume a plug goes into it?

The shaft of the safety passes through the receiver. It is normally flush on the right side. An ambi has a thumb piece there. The stop lugs on the left side still control rotation, engaging the left side thumbpiece. You can also get an ambi magazine release. You know, there is a mirror image left hand AR made.

I was looking at the Stag models on ArmsEast, and they are typically 100 bucks more than the right hand version. Plus I want to keep my resale options open, and a lefty rifle limits potential buyers.
