Hello,

How easy is it to change the handguard of an AR? I have a carbine and am interested in swapping the stock handguard with a quad rail?

Hard, easy, or leave it to a professional?

Thanks.

JY

Hi Cpt. Canuck.

Sorry, got my story mixed up. The rifle came with a stock quad rail handguard. Right now, I don't have anything to attach to it so I'm considering swapping out the quad rail and putting on one of those Marstars cylindrical handguards.

So, you're going to swap quad rail HG's for stock Carbine - M4 HG's? Or, is it the free floating aluminum HG's?
I would be interested in the rail HG's, if you were going to sell them.

Some quad rails are mounted with the delta ring and some are mounted with the barrel nut. A description of the rearmost area of your handguard or a picture of the gun would help us help you.

Thanks for the emails. I actually don't have the rifle yet. I'll have it within a few days and will post a description.

John,

Its super easy, but depending on the configuration you may need some speciatly tools (barrel wrench, vise-blocks etc). Go here http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=226782 and have a look at the process to install a free-float tube.

If I understand your other posts, yYou basically want to do the reverse; remove the FFT/rail and install handguards.
