Is there anything out there say in a 223 semi that's like an xcr, ar etc that's not $1500-$2500. I know the kel tech exists. Is there not an opportunity for browning to mod a bar and accept ar mags/furniture. Or a JR carbine in 223? They would be non rest would they not ?

Vz 58 chambered in 223 is probably your best bet. Get the ar adapter and you can rock ar mags, would cost you under 1500 with the adapter and some mags brand new

Considering one actually. Just not hot on the ak look. And don't dig the bulpup norc tu either. Really just someone give me an acr for $1000 or de restrict the ar I'd be happy.

Benelli MR1 takes AR mag.'s, is a .223 semi. and can be bought new for under $2,000 (I think there's one in the EE right now for around $1,200+/-$100). Decent accuracy 2-4MOA with factory ammo., some have seen MOA with hand loads and runs reliably.

Also AR180-B semi. .223 that takes AR mag.'s and is probably the best option, but are not sold new anymore and can be hard to find. They sell for around the $1,400 to $1,900 range used and are a very good rifle with good accuracy and reliability, there are a few parts upgrades available too.

Cheers D

I LIKE the AK look, and I think the Vz 58 chambered in 223 with the mag adapter for AR mags, an AR style stock, the MagWedge receiver rail system, and RIS on the front end really DOESN'T look very AK-ish... looks more like the bastard love child of an AR and an AK. Which is why, to me, it's a visual abomination! But if you want something that looks kinda ARish, it might be just the ticket.

Picture those add ons or similar with a new railed 958, do id64's barrel clamp rail add ons to extend the look of the forend to mimic the long ar forend, it would be pretty much AR ish

I had a Benelli MR1 and the quality was right up there and it was a tack driver. Sold it because the ergonomics were kinda funky. AR180 is close to an AR, but they typically are way overpriced for what they bring to the table - I guess that is what we call the "non-restricted tax".

Cheapest AR-ish rifle on the cheap (I.e. takes AR mags and has a similar bolt, front sight post and stock) and well-under $1k = Kel-Tec SU-16F :)
I've have one and actually like it for a cheap rifle.

You will not find anything else really for that cheap. GL.
