What do you recommend?

The only ones that I've seen is the blade tech eclipse, and the ITW fastmag.

That matches recommend at least 5 mags per match.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Check out the Blade Tech Revolution or Classic rifle mag pouches. Most folks in my matches run the doubles on their belts. Keeps the mags far enough forward to make mag changes fast.

What type of match? I shoot cqb and use a chest rig.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll check those out.

As far as type of match, I'm not sure if it's CQB because on their qualifier they have one target at 60 meters +

This is their website

I thought of a chest rig two, but didn't know how to attach 5+ mags on it. Maybe 3 on the rig and 2 on my belt?

I find chest rigs awkward for CqB... battle belts or LBE vests are more natural to me. I really like the Esstac KYWI pouches.

Thanks for the info, I'll check that out.

One thing I liked about the chest rig, is the ability to carry plates. I know it's heavy and unnecessary, but any bit of safety I can add, the better.

There are many types of chest rig. I think that you are thinking of a plate carrier. With the right molle pouches you should be able to carry 6+ mags.
One thing to consider is that chest rigs can be quite hot to wear and can interfere with prone position shooting.

I'm favouring battle belts more lately. You can carry as much as a chest rig and are more comfortable for most.

If you're just talking pouches, It really depends what you'll be running them off of. IE a gun belt, battle belt, chest rig, etc. I like the HSGI Tacos (if you want more mags they have double stacked versions)

As much as i love them and run them myself, I'll point out that Chest Rigs and Plate Carriers are a military middle of the road solution to a very dynamic problem and probably are not the best options for competition shooters. I say keep an eye out for what the more senior guys are running at your matches. In particular the guys who dominate the tops of the leader boards.

My buddies and I all shoot DSS matches and we've all switched to belt based mag carriers, fast mag or bladetech are great.

If you're running 10 round mags coupled two pouches is sufficient.

Hope to see ya at a match, they're a blast!

I use these Blade-Tech Revolution AR mag carriers on a belt.

These are in stock from us at the moment

How are these style of carrier for retention? I have never tried those style other than for pistol mags but would worry about them coming out during modified prone positions or while running.
I'm using the 5.11 soft single pouches on my belt currently with 4 single rifle pouches and 2 single pistol pouches, they worked well for me at the CQB class I did last summer but I haven't had time to get into 3-gun yet as I originally planned to when I was gearing up.

The Blade-tech carriers have adjustable retention, so you won't have any issue with mags flying when running or changing positions.

OP: the only issues we ever see with retention are guys using speedy IPSC mag pouches, or worse yet, magnets. This is especially true of the Chilliwack matches as we are more tactically-focused and will design stages to include crawling and many dynamic movements.

The Blade-Tech carriers suggested by CTCS are a very good option, and CTCS is a GREAT sponsor of DSS matches! Our website has info about all our great sponsors, and they'll get you the gear you need.

As stated, you can wear a battle belt in conjunction with a plate carrier if you wish. As I stated earlier, I find chest rigs or plate carrier mounted pouches awkward: I find the most natural place to grab from is my waist, so that is where I want my mag pouches. As Kanezor said, most courses of fire are 26-34 rounds, so you will be fine if you have the ability to carry at least 4 LAR15 mags in addition to your one you start with. You'll also need to carry at least two pistol mags (and one in the pistol) if you're shooting multigun at Chilliwack.

See you out there!

Can't wait!

It will probably be until next year. Next qualifier is in Sept but that's too soon for me.

I believe you can adjust the retention.

Check out the "fight light" series by tactical tailor at dstactical. Will hold your AR mags, and will fit a NORMAL/gun belt with SMALL malice clips (they normally come with large), or fit on your vest / chest rig / leg subload with the included LARGE malice clips. They are also cheap to start (~$35 double mag holder holds my 4 coupled LAR mags for 40 rounds on the belt).

As well, get some LAR-15 mags (10 rounders) and "couple them" (with LAR mag wedges) together to make 30 round length mags. These will fit better in pretty much all mag holders than the 5/10 rounder mags we're use to up here, and will make your first reload very fast as all you have to do is remove you mag, flip your mag and reinsert it.

Speaking of the hard polymer/Kydex mag holsters, the majority of them are adjustable for tension which is an advantage. Same with the Tacos, but they are much more difficult to adjust.

I have swapped out all my HSGI tacos on my battle belt for the rigid G-Code magazine carriers. They are very similar to the bladetech's. I find them much easier to insert magazines into.

On my plate carrier I run Esstac. They are really nice.

I agree with what other have said, I prefer a battle belt over a chest rig / plate carrier. Only reason to run a chest rig is if you run out of real estate on your belt.
