So I bought a AR multi tool from e bay. It took for ever to get here, shipped from Hong Kong. The problem I have is that the part of the tool that removes the castle nut is too big. It was advertised as "AR Tactical All In One Combination Multi Combo Wrench Tool For Colt .223 Rifle"

When I contacted the seller, they said it was only for a colt .223 rifle. Am I missing something here? I thought all AR's were based off of the colt design and that parts are interchangeable.

AR15 buffer tubes (and therefor the nut) come in 2 sizes, milspec and commercial. I'm guessing you have a milspec AR, and that wrench you purchased is for a commercial AR.

I have used my NC Star multi tool for both commercial and mil-spec tubes and it works on both. I would say the tool you bought was made out of spec. or there is something funky with your castle nut but having the tool made in Hong Kong I would go with the tool is out of spec.

I totally agree, I just need to convince the seller.

First I've heard of two different size castle nuts. As always I stand to be corrected but since both commercial and mil-spec tubes screw into the same lower receivers, despite the tubes being slightly different diameters the threads have to be the same. Therefore the castle nuts are also going to be the same.

Unless you somehow got a funky castle nut (which is unlikely) I'd say the tool is out of spec (badly).

You're right. I never thought of it that way. Lol
