Hello, I just got my first AR which ended up to be a Stag with A2 butt, Gov. profile 20"bbl, 1/9 twist, 5.56 flattop with no handle. Well I thought I would mount a scope that I have lying around here just to see what the picture and feel would be like. I soon realized that the rings I've got are way too low to get a decent weld and still see through the scope. I guess with the A2 stock being on the same plane as the top of the receiver, that it should be obvious. By the time you get a cheek weld, your eye is 2-" 3" inches higher than my scope. What height and type rings do people use? What height riser is common? I'm going to buy the handle down the road and I have a A.R.M.S scope adaptor for that, and I'm just starting to get organized and my wallet is still stinging from the original purchase so a high end scope is way off. Thanks Pete .

Nice rig there!

In the past when shooting Leupold VariXIII 3.5 x 10 x 40mm Tactical scopes (won all my DCRA Service Rifle medals with this optic), I would mount Millett Angle-Loc High & Extra High 1" rings. Looked kinda goofy, but that worked for competition on a 1 way range (get it?).

Now if I was to do it again, I would use an ARMS # 5 tactical riser block along with some sort of tactical ring, but then again the Millett Angle-Loc did the job back then. Many people swear AT them, I swear BY them. Buy what works for you. Besides, I could always re-use those Millet Angle-Loc rings for my other optics with Weaver bases like my hunting rifles.

Some people insist in >$ 100 Tactical rings like TPS, PRI, or Badger Ordnance or Leupold Mark4's. Again, go with what works for YOUR budget, and your game: 3 Gun, Service Rifle, 100 yard blasting, 2 way range like Asskrakistan, etc.

Okay, here's the bling, bling solution: Buy an ACOG and get it over with. You will never switch to anything else... Okay, okay, maybe a Schmidt and Bender or NightForce or US Optics... ha ha ha I hope I did not depress you especially on this New Year's Eve.

Cheers,
Barney

Thanks guys. I've got a bit of an idea now. I would like to get the Acog or Elcan setup but I'll be waiting awhile for that. In the meantime I'll check out what's available for rings and risers/mounts ala "Hungry"
