AR safety question

My safety lever is on the wrong side. I push it from left to right and it almost comes out but sticks on the hole on the right side. Also it does not lock into position, but swings freely about 300 degrees.

Can I give it a whack and shove it in on the left where it belongs?

1, sorry the selector does have to be on the left side of the gun (while pointing @ hostiles) if not the detent pn will not engage end the selector will no stay in.

2. If you put your ar together yourself you might have missed the pin goes in that hole where the pistol grip attaches. If the pin is indeed there (and the spring that goes behind it) then you may want to make sure that the detent pin is free to move in that hole and that the sping is the correct length. With the pistol grip removed the spring should protude approx. 3/8" or some millimetes for thos metric pinko's 8)
