I just bought my first AR and don't plan on scoping it right away. But I do want to in the future. What are you guy's using for scopes on your AR's. My Range is only 200m so I don't need a high power. I really like the burris XTR but it is a little out of my price range. The MTAC is cool as well but I'm not sure about shooting out to 100-200m when the red dot is 2.3moa. I really like the illuminated reticles or red dots and the 1-4X zoom. What is there for other magnified scopes that use illuminated reticles? And is there any with smaller or adjustable dots?

I was thinking of a scope with a regular reticle and adding a fastfire to it also???

I do like the EOtech's with the magnifiers but that also gets pricey

What are your opinions??

I'm still new to ARs but I have a Leupold MK AR 1.5-4x. Anything below 25m 1.5 is fine and I can use both eyes open. Anything beyond that I rack it up to 4x. Pretty nice and clean crosshair reticle. No illumination though. Nice audible adjustment clicks on the towers. You can mount a fastfire or equivalent to the top (it has a little picatinny on it) but I doubt I will.

Otherwise, if you insist on some magnification, how about a Leupold Patrol scope 1.5x4?
It has a mildot reticle and a red dot in the cross hairs.
I was shooting mine out to 300 yds last week - at 4 power hits on a 12x12 plate were pretty easy.

Look up Leupold VX-R Patrol Scope
There's a hunting version too, with no target turrets but a finer reticle.

Wolverine and Wanstalls carry the LUX CMR 1-4 and I just put one on my 14.5" AR and I'm very impressed. Good features for the money.
Good luck

Ordered two of these. One for an AR the other for a Tavor. Reviews have been good. Looking forward to trying them out.

Keep in mind an eotech + magnifier can add over 20 oz's in weight to your rifle.

I currently have a EO517 and Gen1 4x Magnifier on my PWS AR and I'm switching (for weight reasons) to a Leupold 3-9x with a Mini Red Dot on top.

Much lighter weight setup and for a small frame guy like me it makes a lot of difference in terms of ease of movement and pointability of the weapon.

the Millet DMS is a 1x4 with an illuminated reticle and is an excellent option if budget is a concern. Not EOTECH or ACOG, but not the same cash outlay either. It is a far better product than the price point suggests.

I am intrigued by the new line if Nikon M-223 scopes. Could be good, once they come to Canada.
