What are the required tools ie. Essentials, to do the dissasembly of an ar upper? Any recommendations on what i should use/avoid?

I know of : vise block for the upper, torque wrench, barrel nut wrench, punches for the gas tube pin and gas block pins? Anything i am missing?

Look at the alum barrel vise clamps VS the clam shells. You can find them at brownells for like under 40 USD. Never have to worry about twisting a receiver. Also should work with other same size barrels...

Castle nut tool for the carbine just get the one with the hook. Stay away from the NcStar Gen 2 multi tool. The castle nut wrench was too big for the nut I had, the YHM tool didnt work on a YHM jam nut. Metal is too soft.

DPMS is a decent tool, Just a little awkward to put on a TQ wrench and hold. Kinda need 3 hands.

Is the magpul bev block any good?

Yes. I used to use the barrel clamps but there are some instances when it's not possible to use it. I was going to buy the Giessele Reaction Rod but the Magpul BEV blocks came out just before I pulled the trigger. At 40% cheaper and doing two job (upper and lower receivers), it was a no-brainer.

If you are punching out tapered pins form gas blocks, you'd want to get taper punches as well as pin punches. Using a pin punch to try and knock out a taper pin that's in there good will only end up with bent or broken pin punches.

Add a breaker bar (they go on sale all the time at CrappyTire) for those snugged in barrel nuts 'cause you don't want to use your good torque wrench to be removing that stuff.

Oh, roll pin punches and roll pin starter punches are great to have.

For specialized tools, I have aluminum vise blocks to hold the barrel; a plastic clamshell to hold uppers; an internal wrench to engage the barrel extension; and the standard armorers wrench. Made an external wrench to engage barrel extensions.
