hey guys, im in the process of doing my first ar build. ive got a norc lower, got it for a decent price with a trigger, so now to build the rest. i contacted a fella on here about a buffer system with butt stock so that part will be complete, so now i need an upper. would i be better off buying an upper parts kit or pieceing it together from the used parts section from here? i know the convenience of buying it as one entire package is a big selling point but would it be cheaper to buy it piece by piece? and if a parts kit is the best way to go who from our venders sells the cheapest upper parts kit? thanks

NEA is going to have more stock on their bolt carrier groups. At $120 that's a good starting point for building an upper from parts. An NEA upper is pretty nice too and a good price. Then you need a barrel, gas block, gas tube, and to make a decision about the handguard system. Do you have access to tools to assemble an upper, as in barrel install?

It will not be cheaper but you may get the gun you want if you know what your doing.
remmber putting a mish mash of parts togeather as the cheapest price you can, without knowing what to look for done not allways work out well.
but i have no idea of your background.

id like to think im handy, im able to fix things and build things. ive pulled apart several guns and they still work, lol. my buddy built an ar and takes it apart for fun so ill get him to help me assemble it, im not afraid to try it myself, thats what the internet is for and you tube and what not. thanks for the input.

if i can find a reasonably price upper parts kit ill buy one, if not ill just start piecing things together, right now i dont mind buying cheaper parts just to get it done and in the future ill upgrade and then sell off what i have, ill check nea, thanks guys

Look for a use upper to show up on EE that is dressed up exactly the way you want. You can save a lot of money vs piecing it together yourself.

id just piece it out as i upgraded to the stuff i wanted. so a frankengun wouldnt be an issue for me :) im checking the ee and online and man some of the uppers are really a rich mans upper, lol. thats why im leaning towards just picking up a piece here and there and doing it that way. build it over time and maybe even build it with the better parts to begin with. luckily the ee is filled with parts for these things. i dont mind using a norc lower but id prefer to not build off a norc upper, and it seems like there are endless companies making parts for these things, whats a good company that makes upper parts that wont break the bank?

thanks for the help so far guys
