AR10 Non-restricted

There are no unrestricted AR-10s anymore. Apparently, the AR-10 is a variant of the AR-15 which is restricted therefore the AR-10 is also restricted. Even though the AR-10 came before the AR-15, its still a variant. Yet the Swiss Arms rifles use a SIG 540 receiver which came before the SIG 550 and it isn't considered a variant.

Stupid laws here are stupid.

I believe that electrobug is correct. There are some (1 or 2) non-restricted AR10s in existence in Canada. That means that there is an FRT number

I'd love to know exactly which models because I've been convinced that they were all restricted. The important part of all this, are they still in production?

If by "real" AR-10 you mean one of the original tool room guns from Costa Mesa, CA or one of the Artillerie Inrichtingen guns, then no, those are not AR-15 variants.

I couldn't find anything more than this, although I do remember seeing something more regarding the Non-Restricted AR10s. I could be wrong though.

If the old AR-10 is non-restricted then why wouldn’t someone start a new production batch on that design? We have enough people in Canada making custom AR15 so remaking the AR10 shouldn’t be a problem!

I thought Armalite was making the original (the ones with the charging handle on top). I know i've seen them somewhere.

Thats an AR10B, it looks like an original AR10 but is based on the AR15 internally. There were a few semi-auto only original AR10s as well as a few custom semi-only lower receivers made by a few different USA companies ages ago. They are no longer produced and were never produced in large amounts.

I think you guyz are reffering to this non-restricted goodness

Would these still be NR if they were made in Canada? Is the lower able to take other AR-10 uppers?

"...why they were considered a variant..." Because they look like an AR-15. Or vice versa. Like LeeEnfieldNo.4_mk1 says, a real AR-10 isn't like the current commercial version. It's a 12(3) prohibited.
"...thought Armalite..." Isn't the same company that made the real AR-10's in the 50's. Original AR-10's were made in Holland. The real sad part is that they made a few chambered in 7.62 x 39 for testing in Finland. Always thought that would have been an ideal mating.
"...new production batch..." Stateside, the ATF would likely declare a modern built AR-10 to be evil and run around confiscating them all. Our bunch would most likely follow along.

Now Satain that would be a Sudanese AR10 with the factory Artillerie Inrichtingen lower receiver. It might have a re-welded lower receiver by Hahn Machine in semi-only as was legal in USA but the legality of such an item is very grey in Canada... unless I am missing something? Now if it had a CKA steel or Speciality Arms aluminium USA made lower receiver (not a re-weld) it would be a different story.

Back to the original question, are there FRT numbers for the non-restricted AR10s in the system? For which manufacturers?

all 308 ARs are NOT AR-10s.

The DPMS/HK 308s are a lot different than the Armalite/KAC 308s (with the latter being the most comparable to the original AR-10s).

Im so confused now.

So modern AR rifles chambered in .308 are restricted, but real AR-10s are NR? I would seriously like to get my hands on one of them now.

Also to the guy that posted pics, Im jelly. Nice rifle
