Just wondering about the pros and cons of going either way. Accuracy, Operating Costs, Preferences, Etc.

Just want to see what you experienced guys think. Also, where is the best place to purchase 9mm ARs in Canada?

Do you want a rifle or a subgun?
What kind of ranges do you want to shoot at?
Obviously with 9mm you're limited in ranges you can shoot to, but its roughly half the cost of .223
There is no downside to .223

Well 9mm should be cheaper to run but you won't get nearly the distances you would with a 223. What do you want to do with it should be your first question.

While there's nothing wrong with a 9mm AR--it would be fun and more unique--you're limited really to about 100m or so while even a shorty AR in 5.56mm will be accurate to maybe 300m or more. Bulk 5.56mm ammo is priced close enough for me to 9mm not to make cost a difference really either. Mags and other calibre-specific spare parts are easier to find too. I'd go with 5.56.

i say get one of each at least

Sooner or later that is where many end up. I'd say 5.56mm first then 9mm but I like shooting longer range, if you like short range blasting on a pistol range then the 9mm is a better choice.

well, thats the beauty of the AR get 2 in 1, go for the caliber you think you will shoot more of first and then get a 9mm or 556 upper and swap as required, there are many different methods to do a 9mm upper that make this completely feasable,

9mm is very acurate to about 75 yards i can hit clays all day with my colt 9mm 10'5 barrel

100 is not so good (my eyes probably dont help) thats with the old a1 sights

1 advantage is with 9mm colt systems you can now have 10 rnd mags.....

the thing is that it dosnt stop there theres .50 bewolf .45 acp .30whisper 6.8mmspc new .45 bushmaster is coming out ...im sure theres lots more

If you don't have an AR already and your trying to decide one over the other than go with 5.56.

I built my own 9mm AR and it probably cost me significantly more than you'd pay for a 5.56. Mind you, this was before Questar began importing RRA so the 9mm parts were hard to come by, and expensive when you did.

I love my 9mm but the only real advantage it has is that I can use it at the indoor range in the winter months. But man are they fun!!!

ETA: The cost of Colt mags should be enough to discourage most people from buying a 9mm.
