I see that we have a CMMG conversion kits for sale in Canada but have yet to find them for less than $220. some are as high as $289.00.

Why is this? I see them for sale in America for $139......
mags for $17

Can we order these from America legally in Canada?

I cant justify paying $220 for a conversion kit when I can buy a 10/22 for that much, but I really want the conversion kit...

I looked into bringing one up here and it was going to cost more for me to do than the prices offered by Canadian vendors. There are lots of costs involved to import them legally.

I ended up getting one from a Canadian vendor and am really happy with it. It is fun to shoot and easy on the pocket book. More than paid for itself in savings between 223 and 22 ammo.

Mags are really expensive up here based on the added costs of export/import. Shame, but it is the reality.

Don't let the price difference sway your purchase, it is worth it. I like the CMMG and it has performed flawlessly.

If you're willing to do the import/export paperwork, I'm sure Brownells can ship it up here. If not there's always Questar and CTC Supplies, I think they're going for $199.

You can also order the CMMG mags from Brownells for $20 apiece, just stay under the $100 limit.

what about the $100 limit?

is it free shipping if its over $100?

CanadianReich,

Since, it's above the $100 limit, you'll need to apply for the import permit and the export documentation as well. The fee that Brownells charges is at least $10. Unfortunately, they do not have free shipping.

It would be worth purchasing the conversion kit from the vendors that I mentioned. The differences in price won't be that much in the end.

I found a stainless CMMG kits with 4 Blackdog mags on the EE for $300 shipped. It was used but in mint condition.
The stainless version runs smoother and easy to clean vs the blued one.
The kit runs great on cheap bulk Win555's but your AR tube should be cleaned after 200-300rnds or you may experience "short-stroking".

I have been doing some research into getting a conversion verses getting a dedicated upper and I am going to go with the upper. One shooter tells that he had fired quite a number of rounds with his conversion and then at the end of the day he fired a few 223 rounds to clean out the barrel and gas system.next time he tried shooting his 223 on paper he found a round that had keyholed.Took the rifle to the gunsmith and found a bulge in the barrel, essentially ruining it.what may have happened was the 223 bullet pushed an amount of fouling residue and lead until it "jammed"in the barrel, forcing the barrel to expand allowing the bullet to pass.probably won't happen with a smooth barrel or a relatively light day of shooting, but you should brush and clean the barrel before you shoot full power jacketed bullets.
