Here is my newly finished 22LR upper. I went for a 10.5" CAR-15 sorta look, since I had already bought the upper on the EE. All of the parts came from other Gun Nutz on the EE and Arms East.

I took my Ceiner kit and manufactured a new bolt end from 416 SS. It just attaches on the Ceiner bolt assembly and slides out just like a regular AR bolt carrier.

The barrel was pretty easy to do. I bought a stainless 10/22 barrel from Epps as scrap and turned a profile out of it. I got a 22LR Bentz chamber finishing reamer from Brownells, and just reamed her by hand with lots of lube. I had to make a barrel extension because the barrel was 0.995 at it's largest diameter. I pressed it on and pinned it in place with a hardened drill rod pin. The last step was pinning the FSB in place after painting the end of the barrel with Tremclad BBQ enamel.

I'm really proud of how this project turned-out. She runs quite smoothly with Remington HV, AE and Federal Champion bulk ammo, though I haven't gauged it's accuracy yet. Today I was more concerned with reliability testing (read: dumping full capacity mags). All I need now are some Black Dog mags.

Man, I love having access to a machine shop. :D

Cool! I also love having access to a machine shop. :D

So how much did this upper cost you in total? I have one on order from Questar for $799.

With the cost of the barrel, the 416SS bar stock, upper and other parts and pieces, about $350 in all. Tooling (reamers, taps and dies, etc) cost me another $100. As for time, it took me around 8 hours of setup and work.

Here are a couple of pics of my dedicated upper with an Aimpoint clone and a fake suppressor. It took next to no time to make, since it was all one piece of 6061 bar. It's a close copy of the OPS INC 15'th model CQB. This project is almost complete, I'm just waiting for a dedicated lower to show-up.

It's looking very good. I thought the barrel was bare stainless when I saw it last fall, could be my mind playing tricks on me.

Kind of prefer the first retro version, but still, a very nice looking rifle. Now where did I put that 9mm blank I have?
