I recently made the switch to Gunslick Foaming Bore Cleaner and starting using Non Clor Break Cleaner to flush out the gas tube, locking lugs, chamber, and barrel and it works pretty good on getting the crud out.

Any one else using non clor break cleaner, any long term problems? I have a Noveske Afghan SS Barrel. I always run a wet patch of Break Free CLP for storage because the break cleaner really seems to pull out the oil.

Im concerned about damage to the finnish/barrel etc....

I have used it on all my guns.
First a few good shots of that. Then the foaming bore cleaner, then wipe it clean, follow with a lubed oil patch. No issues at all.

I've used it on a lot of my guns for years, including my AR, never had problems. As you said, always lube afterwards as it completely removes all oil from surfaces (as it's designed to).

Back when I thought ARs needed to be totally clean to work I used to use brake cleaner, or varsol. Now being lazy I just wipe the carrier with a rag and relube unless I am turning my rifle in for inspection. For pre inspection cleaning I spray it down with a grease cutter like Slip 725 or Starpower and rinse with hot water before lubing all steel parts.

Easy and it works well.

Why clean the gas tube?

Ive never cleaned mine either... still works fine. I think you could run into more problems than its worth in cleaning the tube.

The only reason why I spray it down the gas tube is because I am using Foaming Bore Cleaner. That stuff can gum up the gas tube if it sits in there any length of time......thats at least what I am told. I do not have any first hand knowledge because I just started using it

I'd be surprised if a little bit of that foam could stand up to the pressure in the gas tube.

I have a SS barrel too, and i end up cleaning my AR in and around the 900-1000 rd mark.
Never had a issue with FTF or stopage of any kind i just keep relubing the BCG until cleaning.
I used to clean every range trip and spend a good hour, now i spend that hour once every 3 months no issues yet.
