Is it even possible to find a 14.5" or 16" barrel in this entire country with a plain old fashion gas block installed on it?
I have not been able to find one at a single dealer.
Found a few on the EE but mostly used/second/third hand Colt stuff for crazy high prices. No point to put a $500 barrel on a franken-build range toy for this one.

Is anyone carrying generic DPMS type level average quality, average priced barrels with a standard pinned gas block in this country?
Anyone?

Do you mean fixed front sight base? Sadly they aren't in vogue at the moment. I've bought two barrels off the EE recently that originally came with a FSB both had been chopped or removed. Now I need to buy the FSB and attempt to reinstall.

Brownells carries FSB for $20, by far the best deal. Use the 14.5 lightweight on CanAms site and you could put it together yourself for well under $200.

Aye but try getting a FSB from another rifle to line up with the pin holes on another barrel.
That's the nightmare I'm dealing with right now sadly...
The search continues..

WTF? "Prepared" LOL. That means they pulled the FSB off for some reason. Why would you need to touch the gas port?

Disclaimer : I don't know how they work , I just shoot them .

Well , it's says "Gas port size - .04 inches, ready to be machined to your requirements " and it sounded like there was a reason for them to print that , so I googled AR 15 gas port sizes and depending on barrel length , they show it should be .081-.089 .

If it's too small , won't that cause it to be under gased and not cycled ?

You're right. I missed the gas port size the first time. So they're selling out of spec barrels that have had the FSB pulled for almost $400?? That's seriously ####ed up! Barrel is stamped with a B, Bushmaster?

Gas port should be .063 for carbine gas 5.56. Pass on those barrels. I'd consider one if they under $100 with an "as is" disclaimer. They make it sound like it's a perfectly normal situation and it's not.

The gas block was indeed pulled. These barrels are for your build so say you want to make a 14.5" you might need to open up the gas port.

These are not 'out of spec' they are a 'different' spec. Gas ports differ based on barrel length and operating system. Piston guns use a different port size than DI, shot piston and long piston are again different.

DI port sizes vary based on gas system length and barrel length. For example a DI CAR gas system could have the following port sizes for the various barrel length

10.5" - 0.093"
11.5" - 0.081"
14.5" - 0.063"

So, out of spec? Not a chance. a different spec, absolutely. Can you open up a gas port based on what you're building, sure happens all the time. Can you make one smaller??????

We offer them but don't stock them due to demand. You can find the 16" FSB barrels listed here on our website

If you want the 14.5" send me an email (scott@questar.ca) or a pm.

Fair enough but nowhere in your ad does it say these came off piston guns. "Prepared" for taper pins. Come on! We both know the odds of a used FSB lining up with the holes is unlikely. You make it sound like a selling point when it's a hindrance. A lot of gunsmiths wouldn't attempt to install a FSB on a previously drilled barrel. And I'm sorry but $330 for Bushmaster that needs machining done to make it functional is out to lunch.

Chop this barrel like you suggest and the RCMP will say that you've created a prohib. I'm not saying I agree with them, just making people aware that following this advice could lead to legal trouble.

I only used the piston as an example as to why the port sizes would be different. I didn't say they came off of a piston gun in my response. I say the gas port size is an opportunity to build what I need you say it isn't. Your choice. If you don't like what it is or what you want then don't buy one. You get what we advertise and nothing more or less. Given the quality of the barrel the price is fair. We've sold several and no one has complained.

Oh don't worry, I won't. So are they off piston guns or not? Now it sounds like you're just making excuses for an out of spec product.
