AR15 Carbine Lightweight/Pencil Barrels?

Been itching to build a copy of an old school light weight Model 653/654 AR15.

All other parts would be easy to mimic and find for pretty cheap.

The only thing would be a light weight "pencil" barrel in 14.5" length.

I'd even settle for a 16" pencil barrel.

What's the scoop on these in Canada? Does any dealer carry them? Were they common at one time up here?

I can't find anything using the net or searching on CGN at all.

You can find them in the US for about $145 brand new :(

Any help would be appreciated.

Okay, another newbie question I suppose but I don't much about modern AR's.

So if I get a Daniel Defense 14.5" Light Weight/Pencil Barrel that is marked as having a "barrel extension for an "A4", will it still fit an older Colt A2 carry handle upper?

For some reason Daniel Defense calls them "A4" barrel extensions but they're exactly the same as "M4" barrel extensions which just means it has the ramps cut into it. Just a weird DD thing.

Edit: with regard to your other question, AFAIK an M4 ramped barrel extension on an unramped A2 upper will work

Awesome!
:D

Model 653 is coming to fruition

Just make sure you don't do it the other way around i.e. unramped barrel w/ ramped receiver. That would cause problems.

Here's a great picture I found while googling the subject
